The short-form series follows two friends in their late 20s on their emotional, sexual and professional adventures in Los Angeles, as well as eccentrics guests who come in and out of their lives via a spare bedroom one of them rents out.
The first two episodes of Strangers went live on Monday, with new episodes to premiere weekly.
The series stars Zoë Chao (Where’d You Go, Bernadette, The Comeback) as Isobel, newly single and bisexual, who rents out her spare room in a last ditch effort to keep the home she loves. Along with her lesbian best friend, Cam (Meredith Hagner, Search Party, Veep, Louie), she navigates the most complicated time in her life. The series explores stories of life, relationships, labelless sexuality and millennials finding maturity.
As Isobel begins to share her life with a revolving door of colorful characters, their zany antics challenge her perspective and help open her up to a new way of looking at the world. From navigating her first relationship with another woman, to grappling with career dissatisfaction, Isobel ventures into uncharted territory with hilarity and sincerity, according to the program description.
Strangers also features guest appearances by Jemima Kirke (Girls), Shiri Appleby (UnReal), Breeda Wool (UnReal), Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords), Isabelle McNally (Before I Disappear), Langston Kerman (Insecure), and Leisha Hailey (The L Word).
Strangers serves a directional debut for Mia Lidofsky, who also created and wrote the series. It’s co-written by Jim Strouse (The Incredible Jessica James).
Michael B. Clark, Alex Turtletaub, Jesse Peretz (Girls) and Lidofsky serve as executive producers, with Celia Rowlson-Hall as co-executive producer, co-director of episode 3, and director of episode 5. Amy Emmerich and Shannon Gibson from Refinery29 also oversaw production of the series as executive producers.
