Coca-Cola is bringing back its infamous ‘80s soft drink, New Coke, and it’s all thanks to Netflix’s Stranger Things.
The soda giant announced the partnership on Twitter with “never-before-seen footage found in the Coca-Cola archives:” the Stranger Things gang enjoying their new favorite beverage.

New Coke’s revival is entirely due to the third season of the horror series’ third season, which premieres July 4. Season three is set in the summer of ‘85, the same year that Coca-Cola released the sweeter version of its classic soda.
“It was one of the first ideas in our season three brainstorm,” the Duffer Brothers told The New York Times. “It was the summer of ’85, and when you talk about pop culture moments, New Coke was a really big deal. It would have been more bizarre to not include it.”

The failed product rebranded to Coke II in 1992 before being discontinued in 2002; however, a limited quantity of New Coke cans will be sold starting Thursday, May 23 on Coca-Cola’s 1985 website. Stranger Things-branded classic Coke and Coke Zero will also be available leading up to the season’s premiere.
Earlier this week, Netflix also unveiled a new teaser and stylized character posters, ramping up its summer-themed campaign for season three:
