Star Wars: The Force Awakens will premiere across multiple Starz platforms on September 10.
The record-breaking blockbuster was released in December 2015, and the network’s debut is the last of Starz’s carriage deal with Disney after Netflix paid around $300 million to snatch up the rights to movies premiering in 2016 onward.
Starz plans to air the film as part of a special presentation on Saturday, September 10 at 9 p.m. and 11:20 p.m. on all six of its channels. The movie will also be available for download on the Starz App starting September 10, and will play across Starz channels throughout the day on Sunday, September 11.
“No greater fandom has ever existed than the Star Wars fans, and we are thrilled to be the exclusive home of The Force Awakens,” said CEO Chris Albrecht. “We want to make the movie as accessible as the fans’ appetites for what is truly one of the greatest franchises of all time.”
The showing of Star Wars also comes as Starz finalized an agreement to sell to Lionsgate in June. Under the new corporate structure, Lionsgate plans to invest $1.8 billion annually in new film and TV production.
