Fans at E3 2017 got their first look at the new PS4 Spider-Man game from Marvel and Insomniac Games.
The nine-minute trailer depicts a mix of 4K cinematic action and gameplay footage that starts on a construction site and gives way to an elaborate helicopter chase. The video is full of quippy comebacks and acrobatics-style fighting as Spidey swings his way around an open cityscape, “saving bad guys from bad guys.”
Antagonists that make an appearance include Wilson Fisk and Mister Negative. The final moments of the trailer also reveal an unexpected glimpse of Miles Morales, the teenager who first appeared in the comic books following the death of Peter Parker.
Unrelated to any previous movies, the game will feature a stand-alone story of the web-slinging superhero.
“From traversing with parkour and utilizing the environment, to new combat and blockbuster set pieces, it’s Spider-Man unlike any you’ve played before,” according to the game description from Marvel and Insomniac Games. “This is an experienced Peter Parker who’s more masterful at fighting big crime in New York City. At the same time he’s struggling to balance his chaotic personal life and career while the fate of nine million New Yorkers rests upon his shoulders.”
Spider-Man (working title) is scheduled to debut in 2018 on the PlayStaion 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro.
