On April 29, two beloved and long-running soap operas will return to the small screen – just not the TV in your living room. “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” will celebrate their comebacks on The Online Network, courtesy of Prospect Park, internet content partners and an extensive marketing plan.

Recently, USA has claimed that it will gladly take ABC’s hanging-in-the-balance show “Happy Endings” if it is canceled. “Cougar Town,” after going down a similar route, just got its fifth season renewal at TBS, proving to many fans that this broadcast-to-cable move has a place in TV. After broadcast networks dispose of these, and other shows, networks in cable and online like The Online Network are becoming more and more obvious as the best backup plan.

What do you think about soap operas’ “backup” model of distribution?
