“Sometimes you still act like a kid,” Bridgette Bird (Frankie Shaw) is told in Showtime’s trailer for new comedy SMILF.
Created, starring and executive produced by Shaw, and based on her Sundance Film Festival Jury Award-winning short of the same name, the series takes “a raw, honest look at the life of a 20-something single mom.”
From “forgetting to add money” on her bus pass, to sexting, meeting her baby daddy’s new girlfriend and grocery store shenanigans, Shaw brings her unapologetic point of view to the semi-autobiographical comedy series about her desires for relationships, sex and a career that collide with the realities of working-class single motherhood.
SMILF also stars Rosie O’Donnell as her prideful, outspoken mother, along with Miguel Gomez, Samara Weaving, and Alexandra and Anna Reimer.
Guest stars include Connie Britton, Mark Webber and Raven Goodwin.
Executive producing alongside Shaw are Michael London, Lee Eisenberg, Gene Stupnitsky, and Scott King. Janice Williams also executive produced the pilot. SMILF is produced by ABC Signature Studios as a co-production with Showtime.
The series premieres November 5.
