You only have six seconds to make an impression on a recruiter or employer.

That was the biggest takeaway from Promax’s first hands-on Transition Assistance Program (TAP) workshop, led by speaker, trainer, and owner of Creative + Talent + Partners, Cecilia Gorman.

Gorman led a group of entertainment marketing professionals as they altered their LinkedIn profiles to make a lasting impression on viewers. Conveying a linear, personal message was the underlying theme for the interactive workshop, challenging professionals of all levels to assess their online presence and rethink how they use the social media platform.

“It’s the living, breathing essence of you. Why wouldn’t you want it to best represent what you’ve accomplished?” Gorman asked the group.

Gorman stressed the importance of keeping your online presence updated, consistent, and present to make your story sticky and memorable. Whether or not you are in the middle of a career transition, your online presence should show others what makes you relevant in the industry, she said, and the message resonated with those who attended.

“Rather than generally just putting my resume forth as a bulky piece of information, I was really able to hone in on how my personality, who I am, and what makes me unique—professionally and personally—should be shared,” said David Pearlman, director of production, partnership marketing and creative at Disney Channels Worldwide.

“Any opportunity to expand your knowledge in an area that you’re not as conversant in is great,” said industry speaker and consultant Dounia Turrill. “Whether you are happy in your position or looking to change roles, having an updated profile is incredibly important and relevant in this day in age.”
