Showtime’s latest documentary film, The Kingmaker, takes a close look at the Philippines’ Imelda Marcos, who at 85 and after being kicked out of office for corruption in 1985, still holds the dream of returning her family to power. To that end, she’s pushing for her son, Bongbong to win the country’s vice presidency.

The film, by Emmy-winning director Lauren Greenfield (The Queen of Versailles), will open in theaters in New York and Los Angeles on Friday, Nov. 8. It’s already been seen this year at multiple film festivals, including Venice, Telluride, Toronto and Camden.

The Kingmaker is produced by Frank Evers and Lauren Greenfield of Evergreen Pictures for Showtime. Julie Parker Benello, Dan Cogan, R.J. Cutler, Geralyn Dreyfous, Bill Haney, Lilly Hartley, Patricia Lambrecht, Nion McEvoy, Patty Quillin, Regina K. Scully and Jamie Wolf serve as executive producers.
