ABC is celebrating Friday after the debut of the new all-Shondaland last night delivered strong ratings and the network’s best performance on a Thursday in five years.

How to Get Away With Murder debuted with a 3.8 rating among adults 18-49 and 14 million viewers overall, making it the best performing new series among young adults so far this season.

Its lead-in Scandal also opened with a 3.8 in the 18-49 demo, and 11.9 million viewers overall—a series high.

And the lead-off drama of the night on ABC—Grey’s Anatomy—scored a 3.0 in the 18-49 demo, and 9.8 million viewers overall.

The numbers were enough to hand ABC a solid second place performance behind NFL Thursday Night Football on CBS, which pulled in 16 million viewers for a matchup between the New York Giants and the Washington Redskins.

How to Get Away With Murder‘s numbers were strong enough to place it with CBS’ Scorpion and ABC’s Black-ish as the best debuts so far of the season.
