On Wednesday, at the Conference 2013 session, “Successful Promotion in a Connected World,” host, author and consultant Shelly Palmer spoke about how marketers must adjust to a “tomorrow that is nothing like today.”

The former composer/producer for advertising and promotion now, in his own words, helps companies “craft connected-world strategies” as a consultant. He told the crowd that when he was working in the TV promo business, he found it to be the greatest job in the world.

“What I loved about the business is how we got to invent and create every single day. It was one of the most awesome times ever.”

Palmer singled out marketing and promotion professionals as the “architects of the future of innovation,” though they’re going to have to open themselves to a data-driven connected world.

3 billion people will be on connected devices by 2015, Palmer said, and each American home will contain an average of 16 connected devices.

“Data-driven marketing is YOUR future,” Palmer said.
