Diddy wants to get into the cable business.

The rapper-turned-mogul formerly known as Puff Daddy (birth name: Sean Combs) has bid about $200 million for cabler FuseTV, according to published reports.

Diddy, who also has a hand in the liquor and fashion biz, would convert the channel to his current media venture, cable music channel Revolt TV.

The goal would be to get wider distribution for the Comcast-backed Revolt TV, which currently reaches about 22.8 million homes on Comcast and Time Warner Cable. Fuse is available in about 74 million homes and through other providers, including Dish, DirecTV and Cablevision.

Fuse is currently owned by Madison Square Garden Co., which wants about $400 million for the channel, according to Bloomberg,

The financial wire said that Combs is understood to be one of several bidders.

Brief Take: Diddy needs to seriously up Revolt’s footprint if he wants it to have a significant impact on the cable scene. Making a bid for Fuse is one of the easiest ways to gain wider distribution.
