When a gang of comic-book nerds bond over their love of the comic, Utopia, little do they know that far more is going to unite them than fandom.

Inspired by the British TV series of the same name, Gone Girl and Sharp Objects’ Gillian Flynn writes, executive produces and serves as showrunner for this eight-episode thrill ride starring John Cusack in his first series-regular TV role, and Rainn Wilson (The Office, Star Trek: Discovery).

Together, Becky (Ashleigh LaThrop), Ian (Dan Byrd), Samantha (Jessica Rothe), Wilson Wilson (Desmin Borges) and Grant (Javon “Wanna” Walton) unearth hidden meanings cloaked within the pages of Utopia, predicting threats to humanity such as viruses, bio warfare and pandemic (sound familiar?). They soon realize these are not just conspiracy theories, but very real dangers.

Those discoveries lead them to embark on a high-stakes adventure, which involves first finding the comic’s famed central character, Jessica Hyde (Sasha Lane). Hyde immediately joins them on their mission to save the world while harboring a few secrets of her own.

Alongside Flynn, executive producers include Jessica Rhoades (with whom Flynn collaborated on Sharp Objects), Sharon Levy, Sharon Hall, Toby Haynes, Karen Wilson and Dennis Kelly. The series is a co-production between Endemol Shine North America, Kudos and Amazon Studios. Utopia will be available exclusively on Prime Video in more than 200 countries and territories on Sept. 25.
