AMC Networks is moving SundanceTV boss Sarah Barnett over to BBC America as president and GM of the channel, company COO Ed Carroll said Friday.
Barnett will run both networks on an interim basis while a replacement is found at SundanceTV.
“Sarah has had a remarkable tenure guiding SundanceTV through a dramatic evolution, taking the network ad-supported and establishing it as a formidable player in the scripted drama space,” Carroll said Friday. “Sarah’s appetite for creative risk-taking and her strong leadership skills are well suited to this new role and we look forward to her building on BBC America successes, as the network continues to establish itself as a showcase for high quality shows that resonate with critics and audiences alike.”
Current BBC America GM Perry Simon is moving into a production deal with BBC Worldwide North America.
Barnett has been at SundanceTV for the past decade. On her watch the channel went through a significant rebrand as it added several critically acclaimed original series to its lineup. Among the new offerings on SundanceTV are The Honorable Woman, Rectify and Top of the Lake.
AMC Networks acquired a 49.9 percent stake in BBC America last month for $200 million.
