Sex, glamour and unbridled ambition make up Ryan Murphy’s Hollywood, a new limited series premiering May 1 on Netflix.

The alt-history series follows a diverse group of actors, screenwriters and filmmakers looking to make their mark in post-World War II Hollywood. It mixes historical fact with revisionist fantasy to expose the unfair systems across race, gender and sexual identity that lurk beneath the glist and glamour of Hollywood’s Golden Age, including how things could have been without them.

“I want to take the story of Hollywood and give it a rewrite,” Jeremy Pope’s Archie says in the lengthy trailer that showcases its star-studded cast: Darren Criss, David Corenswet, Jim Parsons, Jake Picking, Laura Harrier, Samara Weaving, Dylan McDermott and more.

Hollywood is the latest product of a five-year development deal that Murphy signed in 2018, which has so far included the Ben Platt-led dramedy,The Politician. Co-creator Ian Brennan serves as executive producer alongside Murphy, Criss, Janet Mock and Alexis Martin Woodall.

All seven episodes of Hollywood launch May 1. Check out the key art:
