Showtime rips back the curtain to show viewers how the late Roger Ailes built the empire that became Fox News and how, ultimately, his voracious appetites forced him out of that empire.

Oscar- and Golden Globe-winner Russell Crowe portrays Ailes in a seven-episode limited series based on the book “The Loudest Voice in the Room” by Gabriel Sherman.

The series focuses primarily on the past decade of both Ailes’ tenure at Fox News and his life, during which Ailes arguably became the Republican Party’s de facto leader. It also delves into the sexual harassment accusations and settlements that finally ended his reign at the news network.

Besides Crowe, Sienna Miller stars as his wife, Elizabeth; Naomi Watts plays Gretchen Carlson, the former Miss America and anchor that filed the lawsuit that finally ended it all for Ailes; and Seth MacFarlane plays Ailes’ fierce defender, PR head Brian Lewis.

The first episode of the limited series was written by Oscar-winner Tom McCarthy (Spotlight) and Sherman. The project is a co-production of Showtime and Blumhouse Television (Sharp Objects, The Jinx, Get Out). In addition to Crowe, McCarthy serves as executive producer with Alex Metcalf and Emmy-winner Jason Blum, as well as Marci Wiseman and Jeremy Gold for Blumhouse Television, Liza Chasin of 3dot Productions, Kari Skogland and Padraic McKinley.

The Loudest Voice premieres Sunday, June 30 on Showtime.
