Director Ivy Meeropol takes an unflinching look at the man who sent her grandparents, Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, to their deaths in new HBO documentary Bully. Coward. Victim: The Roy Cohn Story.

Beyond the famous Rosenberg case, the film also examines career as chief counsel to Senator Joseph McCarthy, who became infamous for blacklisting suspected—although often on flimsy grounds—communist sympathizers. Later, as a rabidly anti-homosexual activist, Cohn became close to the administration of Ronald Reagan and then to future president Donald J. Trump before he succumbed to complications due to AIDS in 1986.

Bully. Coward. Victim: The Roy Cohn Story premieres June 19 on HBO.
