In an ongoing effort to increase interaction between celebrities and baseball fans over @MLB, Major League Baseball will hand the Twitter reigns over to comedian Rob Delaney tomorrow, Tuesday, from 12:00 to 7:00 p.m. ET. Delaney, who at more than 800,000 followers is a bona fide giant of the Twitter world, also happens to be a lifelong Red Sox fan. His tweets from his personal account range are notorious for their ribald humor and frequently scathing political content. The partnership with MLB continues Delaney’s infiltration into the baseball world—last week he sang the National Anthem at a Dodgers game.

Giving a popular comedian the keys to its tweet castle is nothing new for Major League Baseball. In 2011, Stephen Colbert took over its Twitter account in what was the first takeover of an official sports profile. Nonetheless, the league couldn’t help throwing a little humorous self-doubt into its official announcement of the Delaney takeover. It tweeted today:

“ANNOUNCEMENT: Against our better discretion, @RobDelaney will take over the @MLB Twitter account tomorrow from 12-7 PM ET.”
