For Omen by HP’s new digital series, Good Game Well Played, creative agency Giant Spoon —known as the activating force behind HBO’s Westworld and Warner Bros.’ Ready Player One SXSW activations— tapped Los Angeles-based motion-graphics firm Ranger & Fox to create an overall show package (above) anchored by bold black and red graphics.

For starters, Ranger & Fox Creative Directors Brett Morris and Steve Panicara were drawn to the online series’ minimal LED-driven set design, which was inspired by the marketing for HP’s line of gaming computers.

“The show is presented by Omen by HP, so we wanted to anchor the design around their diamond motif to inject the essence of the logo into the show package. Paired with kinetic typography and an energetic edit, the animation moved the viewer from shot to shot in an exciting and engaging way,” said Morris in a statement.

“We loved the idea of stripping gaming down to its core. The dark, industrial feel really spoke to us, and we knew that the on-set installation should be celebrated as the hero, supported by equally minimal and striking graphics and typography,” added Panicara.

In the series’ first episode, veteran e-sports host Travis Gafford interviews Vincent Wang, otherwise known as Biofrost, about how he first got into esports to become one of the world’s best League of Legends support players. Wang currently plays for LoL team Counter Logic Gaming.

Omen by HP launched the series to create long-form branded content intended to engage the gaming community.

“Our goal with this series is to create something entertaining that the fan base can also find intrinsic value in, regardless of whether they’re just starting out or already high on a ladder,” said Josh Kocurek, HP’s senior worldwide marketing manager for gaming and esports.
