Thirty-four years later, the Karate Kid saga continues as rivals Ralph Macchio and William Zabka face off on YouTube Red.

The two will reprise their iconic roles as Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence in Cobra Kai, as more than three decades after the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament, their adult lives become intertwined and their rivalry is reignited.

The 10-episode series finds Daniel leaving an enviable life with his beautiful family, running a successful string of car dealerships in Encino Valley. Meanwhile, Johnny’s life has taken a rocky turn, and he seeks redemption by reopening the infamous Cobra Kai dojo where he will teach, as he puts it in the trailer, “a method of fighting your pansy-ass generation desperately needs.”

But not on Daniel’s watch.

“After 30 years I thought that guy might have changed, but he’s still the same prick,” he says.

Cobra Kai is written and executive produced by Josh Heald (Hot Tub Time Machine), and Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg (Harold & Kumar, American Reunion). Hurwitz and Schlossberg also direct.

Susan Ekins serves as executive producer, along with Will Smith, James Lassiter and Caleeb Pinkett for Overbrook Entertainment in association with Sony Pictures Television Studios.

Cobra Kai launches May 2 on YouTube Red, after debuting April 24 at the Tribeca Film Festival.
