Monica Maggioni, president of Italian public television service RAI and vice president of the European Broadcasting Union, will be the kick-off keynote speaker at PromaxBDA Europe 2018 at the Rome Cavalieri Hotel March 12-13.

Maggioni launched her career in journalism in 1996 as a crisis correspondent for TV7, the weekly magazine of Italy’s RAI TG1. In 2000, she began covering the Middle East, including the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. During the second Gulf War, she was the only Italian journalist to be embedded with US. ground forces in Iraq.

In 2008, she moved to the U.S. as a special correspondent, covering the presidential campaign and ultimate election of Barack Obama.

In 2010 and 2011, she produced two documentaries, both of which premiered at the Venice Film Festival.

She was named editor-in-chief of Italian news channel RAINews24 in 2013, and promoted to president of the organization in 2015.

Besides her work for RAI, she’s also an active member of the administrative board of the Institute for the Study of International Politics, of the Italian Encyclopedia Institute Treccani and of the European Council on Foreign Relations.
