As jurors gather across Europe to decide the winners of the 2020 Promax Europe Awards, Daily Brief is highlighting the cities where these juries are taking place.

Historical Fact: Legend holds that three brothers, Kyi, Shchek and Khoryv, founded the city that bears the eldest brother’s name, Kyi.

How many people live there? 2,988,000. Kiev is Ukraine’s capital and largest city.

Where is it located? Kiev is divided by the Dnieper River in north-central Ukraine.

What are the city’s top attractions? United Nations World Heritage site Saint Sophia’s Cathedral, Saint Andrew’s Church and the Ukrainian State Museum of the Great Patriotic War.

Tourist trap: Chernobyl, where tourists can tour the site of the 1986 nuclear disaster.

Pop-culture tidbit: Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky, who’s been in the U.S. media quite a bit around impeachment, was first an actor, comedian and producer. He starred in a show, Servant of the People, in which he played the president of Ukraine.
