Set to Stevie Nicks’ “Edge of Seventeen” with only sound effects such as the crack of a bat to accompany the soundtrack, Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television on Tuesday debuted the first-look teaser for their upcoming TV-series adaptation of 1992 film A League of Their Own, starring and executive produced by Broad City’s Abbie Jacobson.

The series “evokes the joyful spirit of Penny Marshall’s beloved classic, while widening the lens to tell the story of an entire generation of women who dreamed of playing professional baseball,” according to Prime Video. “The show takes a deeper look at race and sexuality, following the journey of a whole new ensemble of characters as they carve their own paths towards the field, both in the league and outside of it.”

The original film starred Geena Davis, Lori Petty, Tom Hanks, Madonna and Rosie O’Donnell. The new version stars Chanté Adams, D’Arcy Carden, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Robert Colindrez, Nick Offerman, Saidha Arrika Ekulona, Kate Berlant, Kendall Johnson, Kelly McCormack, Alex Désert, Priscilla Delgado, Aaron Jennings, Molly Ephraim, Melanie Field and Dale Dickey.

A League of Their Own comes from Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television in association with Field Trip Productions. The series is co-created and executive produced by Will Graham and Jacobson. Field Trip’s Hailey Wierengo and Desta Tedros Reff also serve as executive producers. Jamie Babbit directed the pilot and also serves as executive producer.

A League of Their Own premieres Friday, August 12 in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide on Prime Video.
