No lie, ABC’s tween hit, “Pretty Little Liars,” now stands as one of the most tweeted shows ever.

On August 27, the ABC Family drama’s season finale became the No. 1 most tweeted episode in TV history. According to Twitter/TV analytics company SocialGuide, this week’s “Pretty Little Liars” airing brought in 637,000 tweets from unique contributors.

The show’s first scene alone scored 18,000 tweets. These numbers spiked during the episode’s final scene, which brought in 70,000 tweets during the show’s final 60 seconds. Tuesday’s episode averaged more than 10 million tweets per minute, rivaling even Miley Cyrus’s VMAs performance.

The season finale also successfully brought in viewers from all categories including adults 18-34, women 18-34 and adults 18-49. The final episode, “Now You See Me, Now You Don’t,” was the series’ most-watched episode, bringing in a total of 3.3 million viewers.

Brief Take: More and more research is finding that strong Twitter engagement equals strong TV ratings, making it worth networks’ while to encourage that interaction. ABC Family is working across all of its shows to activate its fan base via Twitter.
