Showtime’s new literary thriller “Penny Dreadful” may get a boost with the network’s new promotion coming up, Free Preview Weekend.
From May 9-11, people can view the series premiere of “Penny Dreadful” as well as new episodes of other Showtime shows via Showtime on air, on demand or Showtime Anytime. The free weekend is available nationwide via cable providers and will include the Floyd Mayweather vs. Marcos Maidana fight as well as “Scary Movie 5,” the latest in the mock horror series.
On demand, episodes of the new seasons of “Nurse Jackie” and “Californication” will be able to stream. Past episodes of shows such as “Masters of Sex,” “Years of Living Dangerously” and “Weeds” also will be available through the preview, as well as a lineup of movies like “Silver Linings Playbook” and “Django Unchained.”
The promotion is meant to show non-subscribers what they’re missing in hopes of attracting new households, much like Comcast does with its Xfinity’s Watchathon Week.
