“Will John Tavner be able to leave John Lakeman behind and save himself?”
That’s the question Amazon Prime Video poses for season two of Patriot, starring Michael Dorman as a depressed U.S. intelligence officer trying to stop Iran from gaining further nuclear capabilities.
After he assumes the identity of John Lakeman while undercover at a Midwestern industrial piping firm, and misplaces a bag of 11 million euros in the process, his father and fellow intelligence officer Tom Tavern (Terry O’Quinn) decides to assassinate pro-nuclear Iranian political candidate—who’s heavily guarded in a Parisian compound, by the way—in an attempt to get the money back.
All of it results in what’s known as a “jellyfish” situation: “when you try to solve a problem, and you just make more.”
In season two, Tavner is thrust into the middle of the covert operation, with his mother (Debra Winger) trying to make sense of the situation while questioning his father’s decisions.
Michael Chernus, Aliette Opheim, Kurtwood Smith and Kathleen Munroe also star.
It’s written, directed and executive produced by Steve Conrad (Wonder, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, The Pursuit of Happyness), and executive produced by James Parriott (Grey’s Anatomy), Glenn Ficarra (Crazy Stupid Love, This Is Us), John Requa (Crazy Stupid Love, This Is Us), Charles Gogolak (This is Us), and Gil Bellows (Temple Grandin).
Patriot premieres November 9 on Amazon Prime Video.
