Patrick Moran, executive vice president of ABC Studios, has been promoted to president of the Disney-owned company as part of his renewed contract, Disney announced Wednesday.
Moran, who has been at ABC since 2010, will continue to report to Disney Media Networks co-chairman Ben Sherwood—a change that took place following the February exit of ABC Entertainment Group President Paul Lee. Channing Dungey is now in that role.

The new title speaks to ABC’s restructuring, and solidifies Moran’s value at the studio, which he helped grow from a production arm of ABC, to a supplier for broadcast, cable and streaming networks. This season, ABC Studios has 28 series on air and in production across those platforms.
“Under Patrick’s leadership, ABC Studios has grown as a beacon of creativity and excellence, developing award-winning and captivating content with loyal audiences everywhere,” Sherwood said in a statement. “As the demand for great content increases and viewer behavior evolves, Patrick’s savvy as a creative and business leader will help drive ABC Studios to even greater heights.”
As EVP at the studio, Moran has led production for series that include Scandal, Criminal Minds, black-ish, How to Get Away with Murder, Quantico, American Crime, Once Upon a Time, and more.
He joined ABC Studios as senior vice president of drama development in 2010, and quickly moved up to senior vice president and head of creative development, where he oversaw all comedy and drama development. He was named EVP in 2013.
That same year, he launched ABC Signature, focused on cable and streaming outlets including Dead of Summer for Freeform and newly announced SMILF for Showtime.
Before ABC, he was senior vice president of drama development at 20th Century Fox, where he put his thumbprint on series such as Glee, Bones, and Prison Break.
“I am so proud to be a part of ABC Studios and to work with a truly amazing team of dedicated and talented individuals who share my passion for television,” Moran said in a statement. “I’m honored that Ben has given me this vote of confidence and look forward to continuing to bring together amazing stories, creative talent and high-quality production in order to build ABC Studios into the world’s preeminent supplier of premium content.”
