For Prime Video’s mind-bending new sci-fi series, The Peripheral, main-title designer Patrick Clair rendered scenes and locations from the show into oil paintings that morph into a digital expression of the show’s core tenets.

The creative director—who was formerly with Elastic and now operates from his own firm Antibody, along with Raoul Marks—also has created main titles for HBO’s True Detective, Lovecraft Country and Westworld, as well as Netflix’s The Crown, AMC’s The Night Manager and more. His striking True Detective main titles, which featured silhouettes of the main characters filled with watery images from the series, cemented Clair as a key designer of main titles, an art form all its own in the era of premium TV.

Clair has won the main-titles Emmy twice – once in 2014 for True Detective and again in 2016 for Prime Video’s The Main in the High Castle – and been nominated 12 times, including every year since he won in 2014 and three times in 2017 alone for Westworld, The Crown and Starz’ American Gods. (Three-time nominee Arisu Kashiwagi won that year for Netflix’s Stranger Things.)

In The Peripheral, based on William Gibson’s classic science-fiction novel, Flynn Fisher (Chloe Grace Moretz) and her Marine veteran brother, Burton (Jack Reynor), are making money playing simulations at a high-level for extra cash. When Burton lands a high-paying client, he turns the sim over to Flynne, who is better than he is, and she finds herself in a situation that is more lifelike than any sim she has ever played. She soon learns that it is life-like for a reason, and that reason is partly why she and her family are now in grave danger from forces sent from the future to kill them.

The Peripheral is produced by Amazon Studios and Warner Bros Television, in association with Kilter Films. Executive producers for The Peripheral are creator and showrunner Scott B. Smith (A Simple Plan), director Vincenzo Natali (In the Tall Grass), Greg Plageman (Person of Interest), Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy (Westworld), Athena Wickham (Westworld), and Steven Hoban (In the Tall Grass).
