During Sony’s State of Play presentation on Monday, March 25, NetherRealm Studios released a new Mortal Kombat 11 trailer appropriately titled “Old Skool Vs. New Skool,” revealing some key elements to its time-bending storyline.
For starters, we learn that Liu Kang, Kung Lao and Jax will return as playable characters in the new installation of the iconic fighting franchise. Not only that, but ‘90s versions of themselves will interact and square off with their future alter egos, tying generations of fighters together in one place. The trailer also shows other characters like Johnny Cage (and his infamous groin punch), Sonya Blade, and Raiden.

There’s humor, severed heads, and a fitting mash-up of new and old rap music, featuring Ice Cube’s “Check Yo Self” and Vince Staples’ “Blue Suede.”
