Canby Telcom, a telco based in Oregon, is planning to launch a package of eight local broadcast stations available through Roku boxes. The plan, not unlike Aereo in its technology, presents a new market with a way to get local stations through streaming.

Dubbed “Pay TV lite,” Canby is taking on the a la carte argument in broadcast to provide its own version, which is accessible through its EZVideo channel for customers at $14.95 per month. The first part of the plan involves live streaming from affiliate stations from ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS and Fox, then the package might expand to include more content not currently available to its customers.
