In season two of Apple TV Plus’ The Morning Show, veteran anchor Alex Levy (Jennifer Aniston) and upstart Bradley Jackson (Reese Witherspoon) are trying to play nice but it’s quickly apparent that it’s not working.
“This is a battle for the soul of the universe,” shouts UBA executive Cory Ellison (Emmy-winner Billy Crudup) in the season-two trailer. Alex returns to her former job, hoping to be warmly welcomed back, but no one, and especially not Bradley, seems too happy to see her.
“I’m not gonna get edged out,” Bradley tells her co-host.
Season two takes on many of-the-moment topics, including #MeToo, racism, social justice, the pandemic and identity politics.
Along with Aniston, Witherspoon and Crudup, the returning cast includes Steve Carell, Mark Duplass, Nestor Carbonell, Karen Pittman, Bel Powley, Desean Terry, Janina Gavankar, Tom Irwin and Marcia Gay Harden.
Joining this season are Greta Lee as Stella Bak, a tech-world wunderkind who has joined the UBA executive team; Ruairi O’Connor as YouTube star Ty Fitzgerald Hasan Minhaj as new Morning Show team Eric Nomani; Emmy Award-winner Holland Taylor as UBA board chair Cybil Richards; Tara Karsian as news producer Gayle Berman; Valeria Golino as documentary filmmaker Paola Lambruschinil; and Emmy- and SAG Award-winner Julianna Margulies as rival UBA news anchor Laura Peterson.
The Morning Show was developed by Kerry Ehrin, who serves as showrunner and is an executive producer. It’s also executive produced by Michael Ellenberg through Media Res, which also serves as the studio, along with Aniston and Kristin Hahn through Echo Films; Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter through Hello Sunshine; and Mimi Leder, who also directs several episodes.
Season two of The Morning Show starts streaming Friday, Sept. 17 on Apple TV Plus.
