Nintendo launched a trailer for its new video game console, the Nintendo Switch, which is being touted as the first truly mobile option in the industry, YardBarker reports.
The three-and-a-half minute video shows people playing games on their TV screen, then packing up the completely detachable video-game-playing part of the console, which comes with a screen and controllers, and taking it on the go to continue playing at the park, at the airport, on the plane, the cab, outside with friends, and more.
Many in the gaming community are considering the Switch the first successful mobile console. There have been other attempts, including Sony with the Vita, which required an expensive accessory that didn’t catch on, and Nintendo’s previous console, the Wii U, which also fizzled out because the second screen still had to be in range of the console so people couldn’t truly play games on the go.
The trailer also featured an NBA 2K title in the trailer, marking the first time since 2013 that a major sports game will be available on a Nintendo console.
Hardware differences have caused some developers to balk at bringing their game to the platform, forcing consumers interested in popular games like Call of Duty, Madden and NBA 2K to chose a different console.
But the Switch is said to be easier to develop for now, rumored to be using the well-known Unity framework, and opening the door for developers to embrace the platform moving forward.
