“When you work in the city that you live in, it’s hard to distance yourself,” an EMS worker says in A&E Network’s trailer for Nightwatch Nation.

The nonfiction series expands on the network’s New Orleans and Tampa, Fla.-based Nightwatch by following first responders in Yonkers, N.Y.; Austin, TX., Tucson, Ariz., and Baton Rouge, La. as the real-life heros work the busiest, unnerving overnight shift.

The 10 episodes capture EMTS as they tackle emergencies on every level across the four cities—including an active stroke victim in Yonger, a heroin overdose in Baton Rouge, a defibrillator malfunction in Tucson and a six-car pile-up in Austin.

Nightwatch Nation is produced by Wolf Reality and 44 Blue Productions, a Red Arrow Studios Company, for A&E Network.

Executive producers for Wolf Reality are Dick Wolf and Tom Thayer. Executive producers for 44 Blue are Rasha Drachkovitch and Robyn Younie. Executive producers for A&E Network are Devon Hammonds and Molly Ebinger.

The series premieres August 16 at 10 p.m.
