​Nielsen named a company insider, Mitch Barns, to take the reins of the ratings and metrics giant on January 1 when current chief David Calhoun steps down at the end of the year.

Barns, a 16-year Nielsen vet, is currently the president of global client service. He has previously served as the head of their television ratings unit.

Calhoun will step into a new role as executive chairman of the board of directors.
