Nickelodeon’s Blue’s Clues is celebrating 25 years since its launch in 1996 with a bevy of cross-platform content initiatives, including the above music video directed by Steve Burns, the show’s first host. All three of the show’s hosts—Burns, Dominic Patton and current host of Blue’s Clues & You!, Josh Dela Cruz—appear in the video.

The network also released a kid-directed :30 promo to remind viewers about the special month ahead.

Blue’s Clues’ audiences both young and less young got a surprise on social media when original host Burns popped up to explain that the reason he left the show—and their young lives—all those years ago was because he wanted to go to college. The spots featuring Burns were posted on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter and were so popular that Burns ended up trending at number one on Twitter.

Nickelodeon also is in production on a Blue’s Clues & You! original movie featuring Dela Cruz and Blue as they make their way to New York City to audition for a Broadway musical. (Dela Cruz was the understudy on Broadway’s Aladdin for five years before being cast as the host of Blue’s Clues & You!) Production on the movie, which is being directed by Matt Stawski and written by series creator Angela C. Santomero and Liz Maccie, began over the summer.

Blue’s Clues is hands down one of the most successful and critically acclaimed preschool TV shows in history, and we’re so proud that Nickelodeon has been its home for the last 25 years,” said Ramsey Naito, President, Nickelodeon Animation, in a statement. “The series’ creativity, interactivity and inclusivity has stood the test of time and we are continuing to empower, challenge, and build the self-esteem of a new generation of preschoolers with a brand-new Blue’s Clues & You! movie and multiple upcoming seasons of the series in our Animation Studio pipeline.”

Blue’s Clues & You! will celebrate its birthday on air with a special episode on Friday, Sept. 17, in which viewers can party and play games with Blue, DJ Slip, Mr. Salt, Mrs. Pepper. On Oct. 1, fan-favorite character Periwinkle will return to the show.

In honor of the show’s 25th birthday, Nickelodeon also expanded its partnership with non-profit organization Save the Children, which helps kids prepare for and succeed in school across rural America. Blue’s Clues & You! will help the nonprofit provide learning opportunities and education materials to kids and families in the U.S. through its early childhood education programs.

Blue’s Clues launched Sept. 8, 1996 on Nickelodeon where it ran for ten years. In 2019, Nickelodeon rebooted it as Blues Clues & You! Episodes of both Blue’s Clues and Blue’s Clues & You! are available to stream on Paramount Plus.
