Netflix unveiled a trailer for Anne, an adaptation of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s 1908 coming-of-age novel Anne of Green Gables.
Told across eight episodes, the series centers around orphan Anne Shirley Cuthbert (Amybeth McNulty), who is sent to Prince Edward Island by mistake to live with an aging brother (R.H. Thomson) and sister (Geraldine James) who had plans to adopt a boy to help work their farm Green Gables.
In the trailer, viewers witness the town’s initial reluctance to accept Anne, her growing friendship with Diana and her rivalry with Gilbert Blythe.
“Girls can do anything a boy can do — and more!” Anne says in the clip.
Also, the heroine, sensitive about her red-colored hair, hits Gilbert with a chalk slate for calling her Carrots.
Anne debuts on Netflix May 12.
