Netflix’s latest trailer for the The Get Down features the ladies of the show uncovering their own sound in the song “Turn the Beat Around.”
Mylene Cruz (Herizen Guardiola), Regina (Shyrley Rodriguez), and Yolanda (Stefanée Martin) jam out in an empty hair salon in the series about the rise of hip-hop in the 1970s told through the lives and music of South Bronx kids who drove the movement.
Other cast members include Justice Smith as Ezekiel, Shameik Moore as Shaolin Fantastic, Skylan Brooks as Ra Ra, Tremaine Brown, Jr. as “Boo Boo, Herizen Guardiola as Mylene Cruz,, Yahya Abdul-Mateen as Cadillac as Mamoudou Athie as Grandmaster Flash, Jimmy Smits as Francisco Cruz aka Papa Fuerte and Jaden Smith as Marcus “Dizzee” Kipling.
The series is directed by Baz Luhrmann and executive produced by hip-hop pioneer Grandmaster Flash, Nas and Catherine Martin.
The six-episode part one of The Get Down premieres globally on Friday, August 12.
