Netflix revealed plans to debut its rap documentary series Rapture during a screening at SXSW. The series will premiere Saturday, March 17 at 4 p.m. in Austin’s Paramount Theater.
Throughout eight episodes, Rapture explores the culture of hip hop through the stories of a diverse swatch of artists, including Nas and Dave East, T.I., Rapsody, Logic, G-Eazy, A Boogie wit da Hoodie, 2 Chainz and Just Blaze.
The series dives into the artists’ lives with their families and friends, to sitting front row in the studio and grinding on tour, to experiencing the ecstatic power of moving the crowd.
Before the SXSW premiere, Netflix posted a trailer (above) for the episode focusing on Nas.
Commonly referred to as one of the greatest rappers alive, and selling over 25 million records since “Illmatic”‘s debut in 1994, Nas’ career has seen heights that few peers in hip hop or entertainment can rival,” according to the streamer.
The episode explores his day to day life, and how he continues to hustle every day to stay on tip, with working with a new generation of talent like Dave East to continue influencing the field.
Netflix also revealed a trailer for the episode on T.I., who in the last two decades has established himself as one of the heavy weights in the music industry. He shares his perspective on his craft, and introduces his fans to how he has been motivated to use his influence to make a positive change for all.
“While there have been bumps in the road for the King of the South on his rise to the top, he has come through these experiences a wiser man for it,” says Netflix.
The streamer will continue to drop trailers focusing on each of the artists leading up to the global launch on March 30.
Rapture is produced by Mass Appeal, an urban culture content and media collective based in New York, and executive produced by Sacha Jenkins, Peter Bittenbender and Ben Selkow.
