Netflix will add the reboot of Japanese manga Ultraman to its roster on April 1, telling the story of a father, Shin Hayata, who has passed his superhuman Ultraman powers on to his son, Shinjiro.
The show is one of several anime series the streaming service plans to premiere, as Netflix Director of Content for Japan & Anime John Derderian said at Anime Expo in Los Angeles last Juiy: “As Netflix has grown around the world we have been astounded by the broad reach and great depth of anime fandom. We are partnering with the best global creators to produce a diverse slate of shows that we hope will excite the boundless passion of anime fans and make Netflix a premier destination for this beloved art form.”
The reboot of the comic from the 1960s is directed by Kenji Kamiyama and Shinji Aramaki and produced by Production I.G and Sola Digital.
