Netflix revealed first look images for new drama Stranger Things, which chronicles the search for a young boy who vanishes under suspicious circumstances.

His mother (Winona Ryder) opens an investigation into the boy’s disappearance with local authorities that unravels a series of mysteries involving top-secret government experiments, terrifying supernatural forces and one very strange little girl.

The series is set in Hawkins, Ind. in the 1980s. Ryder told People she’s excited about her role.

“It’s all about trying something new,” Ryder said. “This is a genre that I enjoyed watching, but haven’t necessarily explored before, which drew me to the project.”

Netflix describes the drama as “a love letter ubiquitous cult classics of the 80’s” and “a coming of age story for three boys that draws this quaint community into a world where mysteries lurk beneath the surface.”

It also stars Matthew Modine, David Harbour, Charlie Heaton, Natalia Dyer, and Millie Brown.

Stranger Things is executive produced by The Duffer Brothers (Wayward Pines), Shawn Levy (Night at The Museum), and Dan Cohen (Story of Your Life).

The series debuts July 15 on Netflix.
