Within recent years, Netflix has made itself known for comedy specials from Dave Chappelle, Kevin Hart, Amy Schumer and most recently, Pete Davidson.
Now, the streamer is celebrating its comedic talent with its first live event, Netflix is a Joke Fest, taking place April 27-May 3.
The week-long festival promises more than 100 live shows, events and activations in more than 20 venues located throughout Los Angeles (some of which will be taped for future Netflix specials). Comedians taking the stage include Chappelle, Hart, Schumer, Davidson, Jamie Foxx, Martin Lawrence, Jerry Seinfeld and Whoopi Goldberg.
It all culminates in the closing night inaugural edition of The Hall, a first-of-its-kind Hall of Fame honoring the greats of stand-up comedy. Chris Rock, Wanda Sykes, Sarah Silverman and more will pay homage to and induct comedy legends George Carlin, Richard Pryor, Joan Rivers and Robin Williams.
“It’s our honor to transform LA for one week into the funniest place on earth,” said Ted Sarandos, chief content officer at Netflix. “This festival is a unique celebration of the art of comedy, and the role it plays in reflecting our lives and defining culture. It’s a chance for comedy lovers to come together and see their favorite artists as well as discover new ones, and for us to be able to share the electricity and excitement of the festival in Los Angeles with Netflix members around the world.”
Netflix joins a growing list of TV brands that are taking their content to the next level. In 2018, Adult Swim launched its two-day music and comedy festival, which returned for a second year at the Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles last November.
