​HBO is set to debut its standalone streaming service next year, CBS recently announced a subscription option to its catalog of shows and Sony just this week announced the content providers taking part in PlayStation Vue.

The Internet TV market is quickly expanding, and Netflix is no longer the only game in town. Netflix CEO Reed Hastings is responding to this with an inclusive attitude, inviting media leaders and Hollywood executives to a summit next month where they will discuss the future of online content.

TV network executives, film studio heads, tech representatives and media moguls will join Hastings and Netflix Chief Content Office Ted Sarandos to talk about trends in online television. Rumors have spread that Netflix may release audience numbers as part of the private event, but representatives deny the claim.

Brief Take: With so many new streaming sites popping up and more TV networks putting their content online, it’s vital that the stakeholders in Internet programming get on the same page now rather than later, when it’s too late to strategize or standardize the industry.
