There’s always lots of talk about how Netflix is soon to slow down, but not today.
For the second quarter of 2017, Netflix reported adding 5.2 million new subscribers overall, with 1.07 million of those coming from the U.S. and 4.14 million coming from overseas. That beat Wall Street’s expectations that the streamer would add 3.2 million new subs, in line with the company’s guidance issued in April.
Netflix’s share price immediately shot up, closing out Monday at an all-time high of $178 per share, up more than 10 percent.
In the third quarter, Netflix expects to add some 750,000 subscribers in the U.S. and 3.65 million subscribers internationally.
At the end of June, Netflix had 104 million subscribers with just over half of those outside of the U.S.
Netflix is up for 91 Emmy awards at the primetime Emmys in September, including three nominations for outstanding television drama for The Crown, Stranger Things and House of Cards.
