Sony capped off a day of 4K announcements at International CES 2014 by unveiling a deal with Netflix and an expansion of its in-house 4K download library.
Netflix CEO Reed Hastings also revealed that all Netflix Originals, such as “House of Cards” and “Orange is the New Black” would now be shot in 4K.
While Netflix will also make 4K content available on TV sets made by Sony’s rivals, the Japanese manufacturer is expanding it’s in-house Sony Video Unlimited download service to include more 4K television shows and movies. Among the titles that will be available: “Breaking Bad,” “American Hustle,” and “Captain Phillips.”
“It may be cliche to say content is King, but when talking about 4K Ultra HD TV, it reigns over consumer decision-making,” said Mike Lucas, senior vice president of Sony Electronics’ Home Entertainment & Sound Division.
