John Harrobin has been named CMO of NBCUniversal’s Content Innovation Agency, tasked with overseeing strategy and marketing for NBCU’s ad sales division.

In his new role, Harrobin will expand the marketing and branded content initiatives of NBCU’s entire portfolio, reporting to Linda Yaccarino, chairman of advertising sales and client partnerships at NBCUniversal.

“John has extensive experience across all media and has excelled in driving digital innovation,” said Yaccarino in a statement. “He is an exceptional addition to our NBCUniversal family and a perfect fit for our clients’ creative needs. I’m confident that John will help us amplify the marketing power of our brands and scale opportunities for our advertisers so they can connect even more deeply to the audiences that rely on us for the best entertainment, news and sports content wherever they want to find it.”

The goal, according to NBCU, is to “give clients more access to original content created for the company’s entire portfolio across all platforms.”

Harrobin was previously CMO for Verizon’s consumer and mass business unit, where he has been working on Verizon’s products and FiOS brands since 2003.

“NBCUniversal has a unique combination of scale, programming assets, world-class talent and data to drive incredible marketing results and I’m excited to join the team,” said Harrobin. “Right now, clients are looking to the expertise of content creators for even stronger, more unique creative ideation, production and distribution capabilities. Our team’s purpose is to bring those ideas to life that deliver on that promise.”
