Megyn Kelly will start at NBC in May—two months ahead of schedule—as the anchor of a new Sunday night news magazine set to premiere in June.
After leaving Fox News in January, Kelly was expected to start at NBC in July once her non-compete clause expired, but she was released from the contract two weeks ago, freeing her up to pursue projects with NBC.
Kelly will anchor the Sunday-night program, which will be executive-produced by Dateline executive producer David Corvo and longtime NBC producer Elizabeth Cole. She’s expected to lead a group of reporters, which will likely include NBC Nightly News Sunday-night anchor Kate Snow.
Rumors point to a potential interview with Russian president Vladimir Putin to launch the program, after NBC News chairman Andy Lack flew there for a meeting earlier this month.
Kelly will also lead a weekday morning show that’s set to premiere in the fall, though details are still not public.
NBC has not confirmed whether the daytime hour will be branded as part of NBC’s Today franchise, which airs between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. Kelly’s program will likely run at either 9 a.m. or 10 a.m., according to Variety. Page Six reports the program “remains in shambles,” with NBC scrambling to find an executive producer and staff.
Kelly signed an $18 million a year contract with NBC for her roles anchoring the Sunday newsmagazine and the weekday morning show. .
Before leaving Fox News following months of contract negotiations, she was the second-most watched host—behind Bill O’Reilly who was recently ousted from the network following sexual harassment allegations.
Kelly reportedly complained about O’Reilly before leaving Fox after he publicly dismissed her book, which includes details of being sexually harassed by former Fox News and Fox Business Chairman and CEO Roger Ailes, who was also forced to resign.
