Evan Shapiro, former president of Participant Media’s Pivot, will join NBC this month in the newly created role of EVP of digital enterprises.

Based in New York, Shapiro will take on the responsibility of expanding NBC’s digital reach through emerging platforms and new distribution models.

“Evan brings a robust understanding of emerging media trends and extensive experience programming for the millennial audience to NBCUniversal,” said NBCUniversal EVP Cesar Conde. “He’s a seasoned strategic thinker with a strong track record of programming, production and digital marketing successes. His leadership will be a key asset as we continue to navigate the evolving marketplace.”

Previously, Shapiro worked with Participant Media to launch its channel, Pivot, where he also oversaw original programming to the channel’s digital, younger-skewing audience. He was also president at IFC and Sundance Channel, before it became SundanceTV.
