Through a partnership between the NHL, NBC Sports Network and Canada’s CBC, hockey stars will be featured in a new series that follows them from regular season games through the Winter Olympics, when some of them will turn from teammate to competitor.

“NHL Revealed: A Season Like No Other” debuts January 2014 and follows the same theme as HBO’s “Hard Knocks” or MLB’s new MTV series, in an effort to further connect NHL stars with die-hard fans. The seven-part series will cover the 2014 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series Games, the XXII Olympic Winter Games from Sochi and Tim Horton’s NHL Heritage Classic.

“‘NHL Revealed’ is all about answering our fans’ demand for more great content and our partners’ demand for new ways to engage with our fans,” said NHL COO John Collins.

“NHL Revealed: A Season Like No Other” will air first on NBC Sports Network on Jan. 22, then on the CBC on Jan. 23, and finally be re-aired on Canada’s Sportsnet on Jan 26, 2014.

Brief Take: This series is part of an ongoing effort by the NHL to bring fans to the bench during games and let them in on players’ lives afterward. “NHL Revealed” is similar to other leagues’ successful behind-the-scenes series, but it uniquely focuses on the drama of teammates turning into rivals once the regular season ends and the Olympics begins in February.
