The NBC Peacock isn’t retiring its golf clubs anytime soon: NBC Sports and the PGA announced Thursday that the Ryder Cup and other marquis golf events are staying at the network through 2030.
That means that the biennial golf tourney, which pits the Team USA against Europe, will remain in the TV home it moved into in 1991 for 8 more installments.
Thursday’s announcement also includes the Senior PGA Tournament, and unveils a raft of new golf-related programming across NBC and its Golf Channel. Among the programming on offer: a Ryder Cup documentary (to air on both channels), live coverage of practice rounds, a show dedicated to the selection of team captains, and other highlight programming.
Telemundo and Mun2 will also air Spanish-language golf programming.
Brief Take: With increased competition from the newly launched Fox Sports 1, networks have to lock in long-term deals if they want to hold on to their most lucrative sports broadcasts.
