Former Castle star Nathan Fillion may not be new to ABC or crime series, but he is to the Los Angeles Police Department in cop drama The Rookie.

He plays John Nolan, the oldest new recruit in the LAPD, whose colleagues see him as “a walking midlife crisis.”

At an age where most are at the peak of their career, Nolan cast aside his comfortable, small town life and moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of being a cop. Now, surrounded by rookies 20 years his junior, Nolan must navigate the dangerous, humorous and unpredictable world of a “young” cop, determined to make his second shot at life count.

“I earned my place here,” he says in the teaser. “And I’m not leaving.”

The Rookie also stars Alyssa Diaz, Richard T. Jones, Titus Makin, Mercedes Mason, Melissa O’Neil, Afton Williamson and Eric Winter.

The straight-to-series show is written by Alexi Hawley (Castle), who executive produces alongside Fillion, Mark Gordon, Michelle Chapman, and Jon Steinberg. Liz Friedlander directed and executive produced the pilot.
