“You can’t do a slasher movie as a TV series,” Scream‘s Noah Foster (John Karna) informs us. “Slasher movies burn bright and fast.”
Whether that statement turns out to be prophetic or ironic remains to be seen when MTV premieres its new horror series on June 30. Star Bella Thorne intro’d the teaser during Sunday night’s MTV Movie Awards. And while the young cast—which features Willa Fitzgerald, Amy Forsyth, Carlson Young and Amadeus Serafini—is probably excited about their new roles, it doesn’t sound like a show that promises much job security: “Everyone has secrets. Everyone tells lies. Everyone is fair game,” Foster intones.
Scream was originally written by Kevin Williamson and directed by Wes Craven, and went on to become a franchise of four films.
The series comes from MTV and The Weinstein Company’s Dimension TV. Jamie Travis directed the pilot. Jill Blotevogel (Harper’s Island) and Jaime Paglia (Arrow) are showrunners while Craven, Tony DiSanto, Liz Gateley, Marianne Maddalena and Cathy Konrad also executive produce.
